LEAF Financial Aid Advising

BVCSD partners with LEAF to provide financial aid advisory services. Our LEAF representative, Mr. Bill Novak, presents Financial Aid Night each fall, meets with families one-on-one throughout the college application process, and is available by email or phone call for financial aid questions.

December 2, 2024: Scholarships 101

(6:30-7:30 pm) Learn about how to research scholarships at universities, within national databases, and locally, and get helpful hints on the scholarship application process.

December 9, 2024: Navigating Free Tools for ACT & SAT Test Prep

(6:30-7:30 pm) Discover free online preparation tools for both ACT and SAT tests. Learn about common testing timelines, methods to build vocabulary, test stress tips, and websites for free online practice tests with instant feedback.

January 13, 2025: Junior Jumpstart

(6:30-7:30 pm) A session for 11th graders and their families to make the most out of junior year to prepare for the next steps after graduation. Learn how to explore postsecondary education options, schedule college visits, understand the financial aid process, and more.

January 27, 2025: Filing the FAFSA - A Walkthrough of the 25-26 FAFSA Form

(6:30-7:30 pm) Understanding the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) featuring a step-by-step walkthrough of the 25-26 FAFSA application. This session is geared towards current seniors and their families.

February 10, 2025: 9th & 10th Grade Gear Up for Your Future

(6:30-7:30 pm) Learn how to prepare for your next steps, get the most out of your high school experience, and find a good fit for your future. Geared towards current freshmen and sophomores and families wanting to be proactive about the future.

February 24, 2025: Making Sense of Financial Aid Offers

(6:30-7:30 pm) The admission process is over and financial aid offers have arrived from colleges. An expert will walk you through comparing college costs and understanding the terminology of the offer letters so that you can understand the final costs and be prepared to make decisions.

March 3, 2025: Making Sense of Student Loan Options

(6:30-7:30 pm) Once you receive your financial aid offers, there is typically a gap between the cost to attendance and the aid received. Loans can be used to fill that gap. You will learn more about available loan options (Subsidized v Unsubsidized or Parent PLUS vs Private) and their impact on your financial future.

March 17, 2025: College Athletics & Recruiting

(6:30-7:30 pm) Are you interested in continuing your athletic career in college? Unsure if you are good enough to play or at what level (NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA, and more)? A panel of local college coaches and administrators will talk about how you can continue your playing career in college, recruitment, the NCAA Eligibility Center, athletic scholarships, and more.
